 8,00

housing & setup
Because these are semi-arboreal isopods, they need more than just a thick layer of soil.
  • Enclosure: Choose a taller container with plenty of climbing opportunities.
  • Substrate: Use a nutrient-rich mix of humus, decayed whitewood, and plenty of leaf litter.
  • Climbing equipment: Set up the container vertically with pieces of cork bark, branches with lichen, and vertical pieces of wood.
  • Ventilation: Crucial. They need plenty of fresh air to prevent stagnant air, which is often fatal for this species. Cross-ventilation is recommended.
climate
  • Temperature: Ideal between 22°C and 26°C. Avoid temperatures above 30°C for extended periods.
  • Humidity: Keep the humidity high (70% – 90%). Ensure a moist side with moss and a slightly drier side (a 50/50 or 70/30 distribution).
food
  • Basis: Leaf litter (oak/beech) and white rot wood form the main feed.
  • Complementary feeding: Vegetables (carrot, zucchini, sweet potato) and fruit.
  • Protein & Calcium: Protein regularly (fish food, dried shrimp) and ensure that a source of calcium (cuttlefish bone or eggshell) is always present for a healthy molt.
Behavior & Experience
  • Visibility: Unlike many other species, Ember Bees are very active during the day and show themselves frequently on the setup.
  • Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced. They are sensitive to fluctuations in ventilation and humidity.
