The Archispirostreptus gigas, also known as the African giant millipede, is one of the largest millipedes in the world and a beautiful animal for both beginners and advanced hobbyists. Below you will find the most important care tips:
  • Housing: A terrarium of at least 40x30x30 cm. Provide a thick layer of substrate (at least 10-15 cm) of leaf mold and white rot wood, as they like to dig.
  • Temperature & Humidity: Ideally, the temperature should be between 22°C and 26°C. Keep the humidity high (70-80%) by spraying regularly, but prevent the substrate from becoming soaking wet.
  • Nutrition: They mainly eat fruit (banana, apple), vegetables (cucumber, zucchini), and leaf litter.  Crucial: Always add a source of calcium (such as cuttlefish bone) for the development of their shell.
  • Character: The Archispirostreptus gigas is known as a calm and manageable species.
